My name is Amanda Harrington, and I am the Emotional/ Autistic Support teacher at North Star Middle School. I work with students in 5th through 8th grade on coping skills, on-task behaviors, organization, time management, social skills, and a variety of other topics to promote emotional well-being. I also run the Mindfulness Club, which focuses on strategies to promote mindfulness and increased emotional awareness.
I have been in the district since 2018, but prior to working here, I was a TSS and then the special education teacher at an alternative education program. I earned my master's degree in special education in 2018, and I am certified in English 7-12, Special Education PK-8 & 7-12, and PK-4. I also completed courses for an additional certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorder. While earning my master's degree, I worked as a graduate assistant in IUP's Special Education Department, and I had the opportunity to work with college-level students with autism as they transitioned into post-secondary education. I really love what I do and am eager to use my experience to support students within the district in the best way I can.
